 | Job Title: Reg Respiratory Therapist
Description: Responsible for the implementation and coordination of respiratory care procedures based on the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care Department.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Administers respiratory care and life support, by prescription, to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system under supervision of physician and respiratory care manager. 2. Measures arterial blood gases, reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment. 3. Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, gas administration, aerosol generators and inhalants. 4. Monitors patient response to therapy. 5. Cleans and maintains equipment. 6. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel. 7. Educates patients, families, care givers. 8. Provides treatment to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and adapts the plan of treatment as needed. 9. Follows hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions. 10. Understands his/her responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the importance of hand hygiene in all environments.
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Transports patients to and from diagnostic testing procedures at Swedish Medical Center. 2. Responds to Cor-O emergency calls and administers CPR. Intubates if physician not available.
Requirements: Education - Graduate of accredited school of respiratory therapy Experience -None required; one (1) year in acute care hospital preferred. - Minimum of two (2) years’ recent clinical respiratory experience.
Skills: 1. Sets appropriate priorities for acute respiratory medical-surgery and rehab patient care needs. 2. Delivers respiratory care to a diverse clientele. 3. Promotes team effort and cooperation. 4. Documents legibly, clearly and concisely. 5. Organizes work while responding to changing demands. 6. Communicates effectively with the respiratory team, interdisciplinary team and patients/families.
Abilities: 1. Gathering, collating or classifying information about data, people or things. 2. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to the information which is frequently involved. 3. Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. 4. Using body members, tools or special devices to work, move, guide or place objects or materials.
Other Qualifications: 1. CRTT or RRT 2. Bronchoscope certified 3. Current BLS certificate 4. Intubation certified 5. Arterial blood gas certified
