Job Title:
Occupational Therapist

Description:
Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy patient programs in the hospital.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Reviews physician referral and all medical records pertaining to patient’s condition.
2. Evaluates and documents physical, emotional/cognitive, perceptual, and functional abilities.
3. Plans for and provides occupational therapy treatment programs for patients from evaluations.
4. Provides treatment to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and adapts the plan of treatment as needed.
5. Consults, coordinates, communicates, and verbally presents patient’s program and progress to treating team members.
6. Designs, constructs/adapts, and/or prescribes specialized equipment/orthotics to increase an individual’s functional independence or physical integrity.
7. Provides written documentation of patient’s ongoing progress toward reaching goals.
8. Teaches patients and families treatment techniques and home program material.
9. Participates in discharge planning, including home checkouts and recommends home modifications.
10. May conduct training, educational programs, or orientation for staff, students, visitors, or volunteers.
11. Organizes and leads individual and group treatment sessions.
12. Attends educational inservices and maintains knowledge of current treatment trends.
13. Maintains and cleans a safe work area.
14. Performs emergency and safety procedures for the protection of patients, self, and others.
15. Assists in departmental responsibilities - including program development/revision and maintaining supplies and inventory.
16. Supervises and evaluates OT students at different levels of their training.
17. Follows hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions.
18. Understands his/her responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the
importance of hand hygiene in all environments.

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordination of volunteers
2. Checkout and use of equipment
3. Drives hospital vehicle for patient transportation

Requirements:
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Education - Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
Experience - No experience required

Abilities:
1. Determining time, place, and sequence of operations or action to be taken on the basis of analysis of data; executing determinations and/or reporting on events.
2. Teaching subject matter to others, or training others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice; or making recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines.
3. Using body members and/or tools or work aids to work, move, guide, or place objects or materials in situations where ultimate responsibility for the attainment of standards occurs and selection of appropriate tools, objects, or materials and the adjustment of the tool to the task require exercise of considerable judgment.


Other Qualifications:
Registered as an Occupational Therapist and certified by the NBCOT.
